Bud, a seven-year-old Greyhound cross, spent more than 1,000 days in the care of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in England. He was the charity’s longest-staying dog.
He lived in the kennels at Battersea’s Old Windsor centre and spent time in foster care with volunteers. Through it all, he kept waiting for a family of his own.
A moment on TV
Then Bud appeared on the ITV programme Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs. Watching at home was Ian Corns and his family from Kingswinford in the Black Country.
They were drawn to Bud. But the show was so popular that they assumed someone else must have adopted him already. Still, they picked up the phone.
Still waiting
To their surprise, Bud was still available. The family met him, their application was approved, and after more than 1,000 days, Bud finally went home.
Never too late
Bud’s story shows how much a little attention can change for a dog who has been overlooked. Sometimes a shelter dog simply needs the right family to see him.
Thinking about adopting a senior pet?
